Hi there and welcome to the world of FireFit.
Who I am:
My name is Alex Vague. I am a Firefighter with Siksika Nation Fire Rescue (SNFR).
I am a former Royal Marine and have served as a Medic in the New Zealand Army. During my military service I deployed to Afghanistan as well as multi-national exercises around the world.
I have recently started competing in Firefit and represented my department at the regional
competition at Spruce Meadows. I completed the course in the 'Rookie' category with a time of 1:57 which qualifies for the national competition which will be held in September in Ottawa.
About Siksika & Siksika Nation Fire Rescue:
The beautiful Siksika Nation is a First Nation in southern Alberta. It is part of the Blackfoot Confederacy and is home to 6000+ Nation members.
SNFR provides emergency response to local residents as well as mutual aid to the towns of Cluny & Arrowwood. Calls range from structure & grass fires to motor vehicle accidents and medical first response.
What is FireFit:
The Scott FireFit Championships is a competition based on fire fighting tasks commonly performed in emergency situations. There are many different levels of competitors, from 10 year veterans to first time rookies.
The events have been held since 1994 and comprise several categories (Team, Relay, Individual etc). I currently compete in the 'Individual' category. This involves completing a series of tasks while wearing full firefighting gear and breathing off a self contained breathing apparatus (SCBA). The tasks must be completed as quickly as possible and correctly to avoid penalties. The final times determine the rankings.
The Scott FireFit Nationals will be held in Ottawa from September 6th to 10th 2017. Qualifying competitors from volunteer & paid Fire Departments all over Canada will be coming to compete.
Through fund-raising, sponsorship and my own personal funds I am looking to fund my entry to the National competition.
I would like to ask you to consider becoming a Sponsor for my entry in the 'Rookie' category of the individual FireFit Event. This will allow me to represent my Department, the Siksika Nation and you or your organisation as I compete at a national level.
