Since I began kayaking at the age of eight, I've had a love for the sport and a strong competitive spirit. I always seemed to be the youngest one on the team and was constantly chasing the older kids. In 2012, with there being only one Olympic spot for Canada, I again found myself chasing older, more experienced athletes for the chance to compete at the Games.
Winning the Olympic spot was a hard-fought battle which came down to a single run and just 0.11 seconds. My dream of being an Olympian became a reality in the blink of an eye.
Competing in London was a thrilling experience and I saw firsthand what it takes to perform on the world's largest athletic stage. I finished 20th, and while I did not achieve my goal of racing in the final for a medal, it only motivated me towards the next Olympics in Rio 2016.
Come Rio 2016 I want to be ready. And this year that means racing for a medal at the 2014 Under-23 World Championships in Sydney, Australia. I'm going to need to be on the water starting in February which means I'll have to travel somewhere warm for that to happen. My plan is to attend training camps in the United Arab Emirates in February, North Carolina in March, and then to Australia in April. This is going to be a costly winter for me and I need your support!
This isn't just a donation though! I've created some incredible givebacks that I hope will get you involved in my journey as an athlete.
