I am Nicole Soulsby, and I am a young North Vancouverite who loves to ride bikes. I started riding 2 years ago, and fell head over heels in love with it, literally and metaphorically. Ever since this day, my bike and I have been inseparable. This year I started racing downhill in the Elite/Pro women’s category, and to my delight I placed 1st and 4th at two Canada Cups, and had enough points to attend my first World Cup. At the Mount Saint Anne World Cup I qualified and finished in 20th, while I was injured.
Next year I plan to compete in all the Canada Cups, and attend as many World Cups as financially and physically possible. Whistler is my second home, so I will be attending Crankworx there– competing in the Fox Air DH, Garbanzo Downhill, Canadian Open, and in Whip Off Worlds. In addition, I would like to compete at Crankworx Rotorua, however my attendance would be determined by my financial situation.
Looking forward, my goal is to come top 3 overall on the Canada Cup circuit and to have a top ten finish at a World Cup. I will achieve these goals by training on and off the bike. I am blessed to be surrounded by world class trails, and to have friends who constantly push my riding abilities.
To reach these goals I need support, and I am reaching out to the community to help me out. I have received positive feed back from the mountain biking community, and have found companies that are willing share their products with me. I am very stoked about this, however I will still have training, travel, and competition costs. These additional costs amount to approximately 20,000$. I have looked into receiving athlete funding, however because DH isn't an Olympic sport it is very difficult to receive grants. To apply for any of the funding from the Canadian government you must be a carded athlete, however you can only become carded if the sport you are competing in is an Olympic sport. I am currently working full time, and doing everything I can to save money in order to be able to complete. However, when the competition season starts I will still be 10,000$ short.
Through the off season and into next summer, I would like to create edits and post photos to showcase my riding ability. In turn, this would also aid advertising for any companies supporting me. If you, or your company, is interested in supporting me, I promise to be a reliable ambassador to your brand, and promote your company values.
